ASA This Week - Friday, June 1, 2012
Note From Head of School
Leah Fregulia Roberts, Head of School/CEO
The 2011-12 school year draws to a close with the usual flourish. Last week we celebrated our seniors during their evening of dining, awards and recital. These tremendously talented seniors will change the communities they immerse themselves in, I feel sure. The entire student body looks to our graduating seniors as the emblem of achievement and opportunity, and as the promise of the future. We wish them every success on their chosen paths, and hope to hear of their adventures and achievements as they make their way toward new goals and aspirations. Thursday morning, we appreciated our parent volunteers during an on-campus breakfast in the student commons, and next week we will celebrate our children and the arts during two tremendous evenings at the Orpheum Theatre.
The year culminates on Thursday, June 7th with the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2012 at Pilgrim Rest Church downtown - all are invited and encouraged to attend! Students participate in the ceremony as each class will walk behind their banner and be seated during the processional. These end of year traditions at ASA bring us together as a community like no other time. We have had much to celebrate this year - the opening of our permanent campus at long last; the Governor's Arts Award, impressive national academic rankings in math (22) and reading (12), and these end of year events give us one final opportunity to share our appreciation and pride for all that we have collectively and individually achieved throughout the year. These traditions remind us that all we strive for and all that we achieve is in support of our children, and the school's mission to cultivate their talents, help them to become leaders, artists, contributing citizens, thought leaders, and community advocates.
See you all next week at Showcase (you don't want to miss it)!
Thank you to our 2011-2012 ASA Ambassadors!

Orpheum Drop Off and Pick Up Information
The Orpheum does not have designated parking and/or waiting areas for its facility. ASA has arranged for a special drop off area for students on the north side of Adams Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues only. The city is bagging these meters for active drop off and pick up only. Please do not park or wait in the bagged area zone. Students are not allowed to be dropped off on the south side of Adams, next to the stage door, as this is a fire lane. To avoid congestion at the pickup site parents may wish to park temporarily in one of the adjacent garages or use metered street parking, and escort their students to and from the stage door. Please discuss in advance your drop off & pick-up plan with your student. Give yourself ample time to account for downtown traffic.
Students that drive will need to park near ASA and ride the light rail to the theatre or pay to park in a parking garage. Student drivers should not use the parking meters as they will not be allowed to leave and feed meters. There will be no bus going from ASA to the theatre.
What should students bring to the Orpheum?
Students should bring a cell phone so that they have a way to communicate with their parents. The Orpheum does not have a public telephone. As students wait to rehearse or perform they will need something to keep themselves occupied. Students may bring cell phones, Ipods, books, cards, board games, e-readers and I pads. Students may not bring lap top computers. There is no wireless service at the Orpheum.
ASA does not accept any responsibility for items that are lost or stolen. All items brought to the Orpheum are at the students own risk. Any items left at the Orpheum will be brought to the ASA office at the conclusion of the final performance of Showcase and placed in the lost and found.
Music Students - instrument, music, necessary supplies
Theatre Arts Students - all items indicted by your theatre arts teacher. (This may include costuming materials, props, etc.)
Ballet Students - please refer to the information sheet provided by Ms. Firicano to all ballet students. The information can also be found on the ballet department website.
Important: Students will only report to the Orpheum Theatre for rehearsal on the day they are scheduled to perform. They will not attend school or rehearsal on the day they are not performing.
Ballet Corps Intensive Students
Beginning Tuesday, May 29, you will have ballet rehearsals in the ASA Studios and not at the School of Ballet Arizona. Please report to your regular homeroom and then to the ballet studios at ASA. Parents should plan on picking up their students at ASA at 12:20.
Movie Day
ASA is having our off-campus MOVIE DAY at the Harkins Christown Theater on June 7th, 2012. No regular classes will be held that day. 5th and 6th and 7th grade students who are not 13 will be seeing "Hotel for Dogs". 7th-12th grade students over age 13 will be seeing "Men in Black III". Tickets cost $7 per person and must be prepaid in the Student Payments section at www.goasa.org or to Mrs. Rusticus in the ASA office. All students attending should arrive at the Harkins Christown 14 Theater at 8:30am and must be picked up by 11:30am. A $65 late fee will be charged for students picked up after this time. All full time teachers and administrators will be chaperoning this celebration event. This event is for ASA students only. Students should bring extra money to the theater if they are buying refreshments from the concession stand. Harkins Christown 14 is located at 1620 W. Montebello, Phoenix, AZ 85015 (19th Ave. & Bethany Home Rd.). When picking up your child, please park in the parking lot and walk to the front of the theater to avoid traffic issues. This location has easy drop-off and pick-up for parents and is conveniently located next to the light rail stop at Montebello/19th Avenue (end of the light rail). We hope to see everyone there!

Showcase Performance Attire Requirments
Showcase is the most formal event we have at ASA. Students are expected to have their appearance match their level of performance and reflect the invest we make into the occasion. A unified outward appearance will allow our guests to focus on what is most important: the performance.
Please review this closely as this for some students is different than what they are currently wearing to concert performances.
Summer School Info
Please click on the document below to view the approved summer school options. Please note that ASA no longer requires ENROLLMENT documentation.
